By | April 30, 2019

Microwave itself is harmful to health. Although commercially available microwave ovens are good products, you should use them as far as possible when using microwave ovens.

Microwave is suitable for heating foods with high moisture content. Foods with more fat and less moisture are not suitable, and dry food is not suitable. Foods that require a crisp surface are not suitable, so it is not a substitute for ovens and frying pans.

Although microwave nutrition loss is relatively small, if heated too much, it is another matter. Therefore, it should be cooked according to the time and firepower of the standard. The temperature is slightly lower than that of traditional cooking, so that it can exert its advantages of reducing nutrient loss, saving electricity and health. For example, heating a cup of milk requires only 1 minute of high-intensity firepower; it takes only 1-2 minutes to heat half-plate leftovers.

It is important to note that it is best not to use microwave ovens to heat yogurt and other foods containing live bacteria, as it will kill the beneficial bacteria and reduce the health value.

For the sake of safety, infant formula cannot be heated in a microwave. (Fan Zhihong, Associate Professor, Department of Nutrition and Food Safety, College of Food Science, China Agricultural University, Ph.D., Food Science)
